Fionna Introduction and Overview 2022-2023

ARISE FIONNA

Fionna begins in 2022 with a new set of design books. She emerges as I turned 21 in early 2022. My life had changed in subtle though profound ways. I was no longer enrolled in university; I had dropped out the summer before. My boyfriend had been living with me for about a year now, and my life had become consumed by smoking weed and being with him. I felt like nothing more than a vessel for these two things.

Arabella was confined to a single, small square dot book which spanned three different years. Fionna is made of two A4 sized books, one dot. Like Arabella’s book, visions are clear in the beginning but lost as time goes on. Now, Fionna’s book of 2022-23 lay in a state of total deconstruction, I never bound the pages as I did Arabella years ago. I know will know Fionna has been retold once she is bound.

Fionna is defined by her loyalty and devotion to her love. He seemed to overtake all her thoughts and therefore existence. She is named after his car which he was a slave to. He certainly sacrificed years working on it thus far and years off the end of his life in health so that Fionna may breathe. I remember using these books as a place for understanding his work in mechanics, specifically bikes in the beginning. His voice rings in my ears as I scribble collective thoughts we built as a bridge between our minds.
