Sacrifice of Time shows Meaning – Purpose Statement
Assembling a wardrobe is like any other system, it requires time and patience to make a fully functional machine. My goal is to understand my body, its place in the world, and reflect that relationship accurately through what I wear. Giving attention to my clothes feels like taking care of my body. I act like I am worth preserving; therefore, I feel valuable.
Defining Wardrobe
A Wardrobe is a collection of clothing. Clothes are those things which we “wear” and are “wearable items”. The purpose of clothing is to save the body from an excess of wear. From the beginning of Wardrobe, clothes have acted as artificial atmospheres. I assume the major reason for the invention of clothing was to stay warm in cold environments. Leather and fur are animal byproducts that are exceptionally good at trapping heat at the surface of our bodies.
What we adorn ourselves in speaks of the purpose they serve. Clothes are the first piece of information person is judged upon. Unlike biological characteristics, you have an opportunity to represent yourself however you want through style. I suspect that a lack of attention to self-expression has contributed to my chronic depression.
Clothes face the world and shield the body, they are worn out from the elements. They must bear the beating gaze of the sun, withstand physical forces, and maintain their chemical integrity when exposed to water or contaminants. They will fade, fray, tear, and eventually fail if used for long enough. Clothes are like any other machine and require maintenance.
Goals and Conditions for Success in this Project of Wardrobe
Creating a wardrobe which resonates with one’s identity and practical lifestyle is a never-ending project. It rotates with the seasons of the earth and a person’s life. A Wardrobe is never finished, only reaches stages of satisfaction. The following are three major conditions which I will create solutions for.
Practically speaking, I want to protect myself primarily from UV exposure and secondly from intense heat or cold. I want to be as comfortable and confident as possible under normal and extreme weather conditions. To do so, I will need to understand how modern fabrics operate to control heat and moisture.
I want freedom that comes from mobility. To do this, I will streamline how I carry my personal belongings. I have created many bags in my life so far, my earliest creations before even being a teenager were bags.
About fashion, I want to express myself and what I find beautiful and interesting. Not only will I have many beautiful things at my disposal to wear, but I will also know how to effectually deploy each garment stylistically.
Ultimately, I intend to craft something that makes me confident in facing day-to-day life. Being satisfied with the state of my Wardrobe means that I will feel protected, mobile, and at peace with my self-image.
